CBR aims to improve the quality of life of disabled people. CBR strategies involve working closely with disabled people and their families as well as service providers to remove barriers that result in the exclusion of disabled people from full participation in community life. Integral to this process is the development of effective training and communication skills of people working in CBR. For CBR to be an effective strategy it is essential that people engaged in CBR activities are able to train others in this field
The need for trainers and educators in CBR is evident; there are few training centre’s globally; there is a shortage of trainers globally and the technical quality of a lot of CBR work is of poor to mediocre, resulting in disappointment in CBR and CBR being seen as second rate service, which does not deliver the quality of service, which it so often claims to provide. Although training of trainers is not the only solution to the betterment of CBR praxis it will definitely contribute to better trained trainers; to increase the much needed numbers of CBR trainers and ultimately will have an impact on the quality of CBR activities.
This course aims to develop the skills of potential CBR trainers to design, deliver and evaluate an effective CBR course, as well as sharpening their communication skills to ensure that CBR strategies are widely disseminated.
